Neil Tandy is a British-born photographer based in New York, whose career spans editorial, portrait, fashion, commercial and travel photography.
His relationship with photography began in childhood in Gloucestershire, England, where he first picked up a camera before his teenage years. Largely self-taught, Tandy continued photographing alongside a career in electronic and electrical engineering, carrying the camera with him through a life that would eventually take him from Britain to South Africa and, later, to the United States.
After turning professional, Tandy developed a diverse body of commissioned work encompassing magazine covers and editorials, portraiture, fashion, advertising, travel and commercial assignments. His subjects have ranged from internationally recognized figures to designers, performers and private clients, while his work has appeared in print and digital publications in the United States and internationally.
That breadth remains central to Tandy's approach to commissioned photography. Rather than applying a single visual formula to every assignment, he works in response to the subject, environment and purpose of the photograph, drawing upon more than four decades of experience behind the camera.
Experimentation has remained equally important throughout his career. From portraiture and controlled lighting to location photography, movement and long exposure, Tandy continues to explore the possibilities of the photographic medium rather than allowing technique to become routine.
Alongside his commissioned work, Tandy maintains a fine-art practice.
